TWC #035: How do I survive the festive season?

How do I survive the festive season?

Dear Meno Health readers,

It’s that time of year again – the festive season is upon us, and with it comes not only the joy of socialising, but also the challenges of nutrition and wellbeing, especially when we’re in the menopause phase.

But don’t worry, we’re here to give you tips on how to not only survive, but enjoy the festive season to the fullest.

  1. consciously enjoy

In the midst of the festive hustle and bustle, we often forget to really enjoy the food. Allow yourself the luxury of taking your time at every meal. Consciously savour every bite and feel the flavours and textures. Conscious eating can not only lead to a more intense flavour experience, but also help to avoid overeating.

  1. prioritise protein

The importance of protein during menopause cannot be overemphasised. Not only does it support muscle maintenance, but it also helps to boost your metabolism. Opt for protein-rich foods such as lean meat, fish, eggs or plant-based alternatives.

  1. keep an eye on hydration

In the midst of mulled wine and festive drinks, it’s easy to forget to drink enough water. Remember to drink enough fluids. Not only does this help with hydration, but it can also help prevent overeating by promoting a feeling of fullness.

  1. healthy snack options

When cravings strike, pre-prepared healthy snacks come to the rescue. Nuts, vegetable sticks with hummus or Greek yoghurt with berries are not only delicious but also nutritious and a good alternative to chocolate and biscuits.

  1. plan exercise

It’s easy to neglect exercise during the festive season, but it’s crucial for your wellbeing. Plan short walks after meals or incorporate a short yoga session into your daily routine. Exercise not only aids digestion but also lifts your mood.

We hope these tips will help you to not only get through the festive season, but to enjoy it to the full. Remember, it’s not about perfection, it’s about togetherness and enjoyment.
