#129: Your values are normal.” And why you still don’t feel “normal”
Your values are normal. And why you still don’t feel “normal”

Tired, irritable, restless inside… Many women in perimenopause feel something is off. But when you tell your doctor, the response is often, ‘That’s just your age’. Even if a blood test is done, it’s usually at one random moment. The problem? Our hormones fluctuate daily. One “in-range” value doesn’t always tell the real story.
Why a single hormone test often fails you
Hormone levels in perimenopause shift not just month to month, but within a single day. A snapshot in time rarely captures the full scene.
“Normal ranges” are based on averages, not how you feel. You might well fall within a “normal” band yet suffer from fatigue, mood swings, or sleep troubles.
Few people have old reference values from when they “felt well.” Without that baseline, it’s hard to know what’s truly right for your body.
What you can track yourself
While lab work has limitations, you have direct access to your lived experience.
- How often do you sleep through the night
- Your mood over the cycle
- Changes in energy, weight, or bodily signs
- Sensitivity to stress.
Over weeks or months, patterns emerge. You begin to trust what you feel, not just what a lab report says.
You’re not “too sensitive,” you’re listening
Just because your values read “normal” doesn’t mean your experience isn’t real. Feeling unwell while your labs fall in range is frustrating but not uncommon. The disconnect between lab results and lived symptoms is what drives many women to feel unheard.
You deserve validation, clarity, and tools to support your body as it transitions.
