RESULTS OF THE MENOSUPPORT STUDY

Thank you for participating in the survey on menopause in the workplace.

Survey in Switzerland on the topic of menopause in the workplace

As part of the MenoSupport Suisse research project, the personal experiences of women going through menopause in the workplace are being analyzed. The aim of the study is to assess the impact of menopause on work performance and career decisions. The data collected will help Swiss companies develop appropriate measures for managing the occupational health of women going through menopause.

The research team from the Berlin School of Economics and Law and the Menopause Center at Inselspital in Bern is replicating in Switzerland, together with partners from the project The Women Circle, the survey on menopause in the workplace developed in Germany as part of the MenoSupport project.

PROJECT DURATION

01.04.2025 – 30.06.2025

PROBLEM

Many working women experience menopausal symptoms. The hormonal changes that precede the onset of menopause (usually in the early 50s) often begin as early as the early 40s, during what is known as perimenopause. Symptoms range from hot flashes and sleep disturbances to difficulty concentrating and mood swings.

Studies conducted in Germany, Austria, and the United Kingdom show that menopausal symptoms can have a significant impact on women’s career decisions. However, many affected women do not speak about their symptoms for fear of being stigmatized and disadvantaged in the workplace.

Although menopausal women make up a significant percentage of the workforce in many companies and represent valuable human capital with their experience and professional expertise, Switzerland lacks support programs for workplace health promotion during this phase of hormonal change.
